The Green Team - My work participating in a car free day.

Today was the car free day at work. It was also a test day. The test was to see if my welding would hold up to the journey into the city and home. The trike passed the test on both the journey in and out. What a relief.

Surprisingly, I didn't have a single intrusive images of the trike falling to pieces and me spread eagle over the road. I did notice that the funny click sound that I had attributed to steering mechanism, and was actually the frame breaking apart had gone! As my mum would say, "that's nice dear".

It was amazing how quiet the trike was, and I felt as though the power of my legs was getting through to the road much more effectively. That is, instead of twisting and pulling the frame apart! The gears even seemed to change more effectively, probably meant the frame was now in alignment again. I inspected the welds carefully when I arrived home, everything was intact, no cracks!

I also enjoyed free parking in the car park!

I noticed when I rode home how much I rolled on the trike compared to the bike, that wind resistance, or lack of was really quite noticeable. I also noticed the difference in pressure on my wrists and back side. Now I remember all those reasons for riding a recumbent.

I had some car free snacks travel in on the trike and they traveled well. Everyone at work wore some green, even the person who forgot about the car free side of the day. We even went out to lunch at a vegetarian restaurant for minimal environmental impact.

Here is the breakdown of the day:

12 out of 13 at work didn't use a car.

  • 2 walked
  • 1 used a trike
  • 1 used a tram
  • 6 came by train
  • 2 used both train and bus.
  • The one person who did use a car, because they forgot about the day, got a lift with someone
The last comment of the day, when I said that I had my trike in and explained what a recumbent was. That's hilarious?! Sounds like I might have to do a try the trike day, see if I can get any converts?!
